  3. A circle with a radius of 8' will be drawn around a point 40' from the point of the pitcher’s plate
  4. An arc measuring 6’ from the rear of home plate should be placed from foul line to foul line in front of the plate. Any batted ball must travel at least to the arc to be considered a fair ball.
  5. A vertical line shall be drawn 30’ from home plate toward first base, and from home plate toward third base. No defensive player may play in front of this line before the ball is hit.
EQUIPMENT:

Pigtails shall play with an 10" SOFTIE ball (Optic Yellow).

PLAYERS AND SUBSTITUTES:
  1. The entire roster will play defensively.
    A. Six players are in the infield.
B.The remaining players are in the outfield. (Note: All outfielders must be in the outfield grass when the ball is pitched.)
    C. All players are to be rotated in the field during the game.
  2. The entire roster will be included in the batting order and the entire roster will bat each inning.
  3. Pigtails teams may play an official game with only seven players. If less than 7 players are available, a forfeit shall be declared.
  4. Substitutes –“Call Over Players.” A team may recruit players from other Pigtail Division teams in order to avoid a forfeit or to allow a total of 10 players to be available for a game. In no event may more than 4 players be called over. The substitute player may only play outfield and must bat last in the order.
THE GAME: (Regulation Game)
  1. A regulation game shall be of 3 innings or 1 hour and 10 minutes in length. No inning may begin after the time limit has expired.
  2. No score is to be kept by either team.
PITCHING REGULATIONS:
  1. A coach-pitcher will be used in this league, and the coach will pitch from no closer than 25’ from the rear of home plate. Each batter will be pitched a maximum of 3 pitches from the coach pitcher. In the event the batter does not put the pitched ball into play, the ball will be placed on a batting tee for the batter to hit. The batter must hit the ball off the batting tee until halfway through the season, then the tees will be eliminated. There will be no called strikes or balls. Batters hit by the coach-pitcher shall not be awarded first base. Coaches, in their discretion, may allow a girl to hit off the batting tee after less than 3 pitches from the coach pitcher. It is the goal of this league to have all girls hitting from the coach pitcher by the halfway point of the season, but there is no requirement that a batter see 3 pitches before hitting off the batting tee.
  2. It is the responsibility of the coach-pitcher to avoid interfering with a ball hit by a batter, or one thrown by a defensive player. If in the judgment of the umpire such interference does occur, the umpire may call the batter OUT, and return all base runners to the base previously occupied.
  3. Time is out and play ends when a defensive player has control of the ball within the pitching circle or in the baseline in advance of the lead runner.
BATTER-RUNNER AND RUNNER:
  1. Play is stopped on a batted ball:
A.When any defensive player has control of the ball in the circle and calls time out.
    B. When any defensive player, with possession of the ball, positions herself in front of the lead runner and calls time out. (Note: Calling time out in front of a lead runner at 3 rd base would stop a runner attempting to advance from 1 st to 2 nd, if this runner had not crossed the halfway point between bases.
  2. There is no infield fly rule.
  3. Overthrows. Runners are allowed to advance one base only on an overthrow to second base, third base, home plate or the circle. Runners are not allowed to advance on overthrows to first base. Runners advancing on an overthrow do so at their own risk and are subject to being put out.
  4. Base Stealing. Runners are not permitted to steal.
  5. Rolling the ball to a base is not permitted. Girls should be encouraged and taught to throw the ball to the person covering the base.
  6. No player can field the ball and run and tag first base, other than the first baseman. The pitcher is allowed to field the ball and tag the runner. The intent of this rule is to encourage and teach girls to make the proper throws to the bases. Any fielder may make an out by tagging second base, third base, or home plate.
  7. Bunting. There is no intentional bunting allowed
